I have this steering wheel stuck in my head. I really hope the car isnt sold. I'd even pay the full 1800 if that means I'll get it. Lets hope I get some sleep tonight. The ad is still up and I havent received a phone or email reply yet. Lets hope the ad is still up, there is an email in my inbox and my phone rings in the morning

if it helps, you have a friend in Thornton that can help fix those gauges

Does he have a shop? I think I could do it myself, but if I can get some phone or physical assistance, it would be a huge help

That is an AMC of some sort ... if you want, I can talk you down off the ledge.

There is no ledge. The car is in excellent condition, no rust, no mechanical gremlins. Only has a finicky gauge cluster and an old people smell. I went down to see it today

What in the gauge cluster doesn't work? I remember you said the speedometer works.

Everything but the speedometer and odometer doesnt work properly or has completely failed. But the car is so cheap and so is a NOS gauge cluster, Im pondering just replacing the whole unit
![]() 11/07/2014 at 01:54 |

That may be your best bet. If anything, just for the knowledge that the speedo and odo won't go in the future.

It could be fuses too, I guess. I drove a car for years that had pretty much no working gauges, including the speedometer. You just have to pay closer attention to things like oil and coolant etc. An aftermarket gauge cluster wouldn't hurt, for sure.

You used the word Gremlin. That is AMC speak for probably not right. Hornet/Gremlin ... it's old iron. But if you're confident ....

I dont think it needs an oil change immediately even. I checkd the oil, its black but its got good viscosity. I Think it was serviced right before it was to be sold

I was gonna replace all the fuses anyway. If I get it, I shouldnt buy a new gauge cluster until I replace the fuses

Im pretty confident, It runs like a top and Im pretty sure the original owner ordered the undercoating.

It's an Eagle, so more or less a CJ running gear. A.K.A., not much to go wrong.

My dad fell for undercoating on an '81 Regal ... it wound up owned by people he would not have liked, without a speck of rust, but it would have wound up that way in any event.

I eagerly await reports on its exploits ... I am, after all, stranded on an island with only rental cars ....

If I ever get an opportunity to buy undercoating on a new car, Im getting it and never getting rid of the car

Living in NYC has always been in my imagination what my personal hell would be like, if Florida didn't exist.

Dad got something that started w/ a Z ... can't remember, but it was more than a grand .... Oh wait - Ziebart. I don't think they do that anymore.

Florida is worse - stupid people and humidity. Here it's not so bad, and there are many ways to get off the island, including a Gallardo, if you have the money.

I dont think they do either, but the immortal automobile was a nice thought

Dad died, mom gave it to me, I gave it to a buddy when I got something new, buddy gave it to one of his mechanics - I got sentimental, then took it to a garage and it needed $3500 in repairs. So it went to the crusher. Sorry dad.

I live in Florida, trust me it is much worse. Though the stupid people, 9/10 aren't the natives. But I come from a small town, even smaller subdivisions are way to crowded for me. I miss my 80 acres to drift around on.

I had 4.1 acres in rural MD once. Miss chopping wood and heating with a stove.

My dad is a FL native, I was there in october to see family. I agree completely with this sentiment.

Well, I had heater and it was in north Alabama, so I wasn't that backwoods. Far enough away for it to be peaceful and nearly silent at night. Dark enough to see how much you took the night sky for granted. It was perfect. Now, I live in Florida. It is none of these things. Every joke you've heard about Alabama and Mississippi comes true in Florida. People watching could be a profession.

The native Floridians are pretty... normal, not much different from what I was used to in Alabama. The vast majority of Florida, are not natives though. They combine every stereotype around America, and create a meth ridden, alcoholic super breed.
